Experience a Test Drive
through the eyes of the

In the tight-knit community of those lucky enough to drive
multiple late model cars in a day, there's a dirty little secret -
there aren't any truly bad cars anymore. Yup, it's true...
In respect to key metrics like performance,
safety, and fuel efficiency, today's vehicles are
worlds better than they were even a few years
ago. Maintenance and oil change intervals are
actually long enough to make many of us with
a couple decades in the industry nervous. So I
bet many service advisors have stories about
reassuring buyers that long maintenance
intervals are perfectly safe to follow.

Obviously, the widespread improvement in the
industry is great for consumers - even if it makes
things trickier for the Sales and Service side
of the house. So for this magazine, I figured I'd
highlight three general rules which can guide a
good test drive evaluation.

First, help buyers avoid snap judgements. It's easy
to get frustrated with the differences between
various infotainment systems. But it's important to
remember that buyers are going to have a car for
years- not the short duration of a test drive. And
while some might find the placement of a control
awkward, or a function buried too deep in a menu,
a little guidance from the Sales Associate can go a
long way toward turning a tricky touchscreen into
something second nature.
